National Health Rights Convention
11–12 December 2025 | Jawahar Bhavan, New Delhi

India is going through a serious health crisis. Healthcare has become costly and out of reach for most people. More than 80 crore working people and families depend on government support even for basic needs, yet public health services are underfunded, understaffed, and increasingly weakened. On the other hand, private hospitals and companies are growing fast, turning healthcare into a business. Treatment is becoming unaffordable, patients are falling into debt, and many face neglect and discrimination. Instead of learning from the COVID-19 tragedy, the government is stepping back from its responsibility and handing public health services to private interests.
To address the current situation and advocate for health as a fundamental right, the National Convention on Health Rights, being organised by Jan Swasthya Abhiyan (JSA) in collaboration with various national networks and civil society organisations, on 11-12 December 2025 at Jawahar Bhavan, New Delhi.
More than 300 delegates from different states, people’s movements, worker unions, community organisations, youth and student groups, health professionals and activists will come together. The aim is to strengthen the nationwide movement for the Right to Health and demand universal, equal, and dignified healthcare for everyone.
This year, JSA completes 25 years of struggles and solidarity – fighting for a strong public health system, regulation of private healthcare, respect and fair treatment for health workers, and an end to all discrimination in healthcare. The Convention builds on this journey of resistance, policies, and people’s voices from the ground.

It will also include a dialogue with Members of Parliament and a national media briefing. A charter or policy note on health rights will be prepared based on the thematic discussions.
In the lead-up to the convention, state-level meetings, campaigns, documentation of health rights violations, and public outreach programmes will be conducted across the country before December.
How can we contribute?
We appeal to everyone who believes that health is a right and not a commodity-women’s groups, trade unions, students and youth, marginalised communities, health professionals, social activists and concerned citizens join this collective effort.
Together, we must demand that governments stop selling public health, accept responsibility, ensure accountability, and guarantee healthcare for every person-without humiliation or financial burden.
Let this Convention become a strong, united step towards a future where healthcare is universal, public-centred, equal, and just.
Where “Health for All” is not just a slogan, but a lived reality.
Health is our Right – Our Healthcare is Not for Sale!
स्वास्थ्य हमारा अधिकार – मत करो इसका व्यापार!
Jan Swasthya Abhiyan (JSA)
