LET US HEAL OUR DILLI is an Eyewitness Report from North East Delhi following the recent communal riots in North East New Delhi. We, the Jan Swasthya Abhiyan (JSA) and Medico Friend Circle (MFC) are deeply troubled by the violence that is being reported from parts of Delhi.  In such a situation, access to health care, including emergency medical treatment to treat injuries and to save human lives is critical. We demand that all State agencies, especially the police ensure that medical personnel are not prevented but protected in fulfilling their duties in providing health care and saving lives. The police must not be allowed to stop patients and ambulances carrying them, doctors and drugs and medical supplies to any health facility. Delays in this regard are absolutely unacceptable, are a violation of the fundamental rights of all people and can have serious consequences. Read complete statement- CLICK HERE

For the Delhi 2020 Assembly elections, held on February 08, Jan Swasthya Abhiyan (Delhi) had prepared the People’s Health Manifesto for Delhi. In this manifesto, JSA (Delhi) demands that the Right to Health and Health Care for all people of Delhi should be the overarching principle of health policy discourse in the state. The Manifesto includes a wide range of proposals related to strengthening people’s right to health and health care, covering various aspects of the health system and diverse sections of the population having special health needs. On February 01, Union Budget 2020-21 was presented in the Parliament. Jan Swasthya Abhiyan notes with utter disappointment that the Budget has failed miserably on all the macro-economic and fiscal fronts as well as in crucial sectors such as employment, health, food and nutrition. For the health sector the Budget has deepened this Government’s agenda of private provisioning of health care, which comes at a huge and disastrous cost of public services for health and peoples’ access to healthcare   CLICK HERE for the Press Release discussing the implications of Union Budget 20-21 for Health.

The Third World Network (TWN), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Guwahati and Jan Swasthya Abhiyan (JSA) are organising a five-day workshop on ACCESS TO MEDICINES, TRIPS AND PATENTS IN THE DEVELOPING WORLD. Date- 20 to 24 April, 2020 Venue- Guwahati, Assam . This workshop is expected to deepen the understanding of the intricate linkage between access to medicines and the barriers presented by intellectual property legal and policy framework. It will also help in increasing the knowledge on use of flexibilities provided by international trade agreements such as the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS), to improve access to medicines at a domestic level. The workshop also aims to equip the participants to make law and policy interventions. As health activists and practitioners, we are particularly concerned by several reports from the state that indicate the impact of the clampdown on people’s health.
