People’s Resolve – National Health Rights Convention

PEOPLE’S RESOLVE

We The People, assembled at the National Convention of Jan Swasthya Abhiyan on 11th and 12th of December, 2025 from different parts of the country, and state the following:

  • We commend the historic journey of the Jan Swasthya Abhiyan, that has completed 25 significant years while organizing to realize the right to health of all people.
  • We salute the remarkable efforts of all movements, networks, communities and activists who have contributed to JSA in diverse ways over these two and half decades.
  • We draw inspiration and energy from the massive gathering on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of JSA, as we intensify the movement towards Health for all.
  • We acknowledge that globally and in India, grassroots movements have struggled to hold governments accountable for people’s right to health, despite the state moving away from its responsibilities, while promoting the profiteering interests of private entities and corporations.
  • We strongly resist the moves of Government of India and multiple state governments to privatize public hospitals and healthcare, and shall broaden and intensify the movement to stop privatization of healthcare across the country.
  • We call for increased public spending on the health sector (at least 3.5% of GDP) along with major strengthening and expansion of public health services at all levels.
  • We recommit ourselves to a comprehensive health rights movement, including the right to free and affordable care for all, the protection of patients’ rights, the right to regular employment and social security of all health workers and professionals, and dignity of all recipients and providers of health care.
  • We demand effective regulation of private healthcare to protect people’s interests, along with affordable pricing of medicines and a people-centred pharmaceutical policy.
  • We emphasise that the health rights movement must broaden its canvas beyond provisioning of healthcare, and must also address the emerging climate crisis and social justice concerns, while connecting public health to various social determinants such as adequate food and nutrition, clean air and water, sanitation and environmental conditions, and people’s access to commons and natural resources.
  • We resolve to take ahead the health rights movement to all parts of the country in the coming years, including actions at community and grassroots level, alliance building and solidarities with people’s movements, and mobilising for people’s centred health systems and policies at state and national levels. We uphold the right to health and right to life of all people in India, in particular rural and urban working people and marginalized communities.
  • We call upon all political parties, the Parliament of India, State assemblies, the executive and the judiciary to recognize and uphold people’s right to health in law, policy, resources and action.
  • We realize that the movement for health justice is deeply linked with the broader movement for constitutional justice and defending democracy in these difficult times, while holding the state, corporations and structures of inequity accountable.
  • We call upon all people, social organisations and progressive political forces to join the movement for deepening and strengthening the Right to Health.

Onwards we march … Towards health for all!

Towards a Healthy and Democratic India, Without Discrimination, Divisiveness or Deprivation

Health is our Right!

Healthcare for people, not for profit!
